Educational Bodies — Who Does What
Every council, commission, board and authority in Indian education in one table — full form, who created it, which ministry it sits under, what it does, and which of NEP 2020's proposed bodies actually exist.
HOW TO USE THIS NOTE
Questions on bodies are the easiest marks in the paper and the most commonly dropped, because candidates learn the names and not the three things an examiner actually tests:
- The full form, exactly — "Educational" not "Education", "Council" not "Commission".
- Who created it, and under what — an Act of Parliament, a Cabinet decision, a society registration or a notification. A body created by a resolution is not statutory, and a paper that says "statutory" about it is wrong.
- Whether it exists yet. NEP 2020 proposed a great many bodies. Some were created, some were created under a different name, and some are still a paragraph in a policy document six years on. This is the distinction the 2022-pattern papers keep coming back to.
This note is a directory, not a teaching chapter. Each body is taught in full where it belongs — PARAKH and the four HECI verticals in Chapter 17, the school systems in their own note, the boards in Chapter 5. What this note adds is the one place they sit side by side, so that "which of the following is not a statutory body" stops being a guess.
★ marks a volatile fact — a Bill's progress, an office-holder's name, a running count. Re-verify every ★ item in the final week before the paper.
