KVS · NVS · Sainik · PM SHRI · CM SHRI · EMRS
Six school systems compared: who runs each, how admission works, the numbers, and the PM SHRI Challenge Method versus Delhi’s CM SHRI.
HOW THE SIX FIT TOGETHER — READ THIS FIRST
They are easy to confuse because all six are "government schools of a special kind". The way to separate them is to ask who runs it and whom it is for:
| System | Ministry | Who it is for | Type |
|---|---|---|---|
| KVS | Education | Children of transferable Central Government employees | Day school, Classes 1–12 |
| NVS | Education | Talented RURAL children | Fully residential, Classes 6–12 |
| Sainik Schools | DEFENCE | Boys and girls aiming for the armed forces | Residential, Classes 6–12 |
| EMRS | TRIBAL AFFAIRS | Scheduled Tribe children | Residential, Classes 6–12 |
| PM SHRI | Education | Not a new school — upgrades existing schools | A scheme, not a school type |
| CM SHRI | Delhi Government | Delhi government-school students | Upgraded Delhi schools |
⚠️ The three traps examiners set: ① Ministry. Only KVS, NVS and PM SHRI are under Education. Sainik Schools are under DEFENCE; EMRS is under TRIBAL AFFAIRS. ② PM SHRI builds nothing. It upgrades existing schools; it does not create a new category of school. ③ PM SHRI ≠ CM SHRI. PM SHRI is a Central scheme. CM SHRI is a Delhi Government scheme, separate and distinct.
